Geoff Bodine
Geoff Bodine becomes an Ambassador of Goodwill for The Stars Foundation
Geoff Bodine was born on April 18, 1949 in Chemung, NY, and now makes his home in Cornelius, NC.
Geoff's racing career started at the tender age of 5 in the micro-midget division, which ran at his fathers' Chemung Speedrome. His first full NASCAR Nextel Cup season in 1982 earned him the
Rookie of the Year
title.
Other career highlights include:
Won the Race of Champions for asphalt modifieds twice (Trenton, NJ and Pocono, PA)
Listed in the 1989
Guinness Book of Records
for most wins in a single season (55 wins - 1978 Modified Division)
Has six Busch Grand National Series wins
First Nextel Cup Series start was in 1979
First Nextel Cup pole came after his 19th start (1982 Firecracker 400)
First Nextel Cup win came after his 69th start (1984 at Martinsville)
Introduced power steering and the full face helmet to Nextel Cup racing
Won the 1986 Daytona 500
