History Of The Stars Foundation
1980's
-
Cheryl traveled to India and helped launch an orphanage with housing/food for 120 children for two years. She traveled to over 30 countries during this time.
-
As Cheryl worked with the Alzheimer's Association, she directed funding from the Frankie Avalon Shoot Out (over $50,000) to the national office of Alzheimer's Association for ongoing research in Alzheimer's disease.
-
Soon after that, Ms. Kathryn Crosby, the widow of Bing Crosby, desired to move the Pebble Beach location of "The Crosby Pro AM" and Cheryl introduced the President of Bermuda Run in North Carolina to Ms. Crosby through the Alzheimer's Association national office. The benefactors of this relationship were the many numerous charities in North Carolina that received funding from "The Crosby" over the next 15 years.
-
According to public records on the events history, hundreds of charities received over a total of 18 million dollars over that period. This would have impacted thousands of children and families in the state of North Carolina during the 1986-2001 years that "The Crosby National Golf Tournament" remained in North Carolina.
-
Ongoing in Winston Salem, The Crosby Scholars Fund continues to provide financial aid to middle and high school students. It has awarded over $7,000,000 to 2,500 students to date.
1990's
-
Sponsorships procured by The Stars Foundation for Children were donated to Randy Owen's (lead singer of the group Alabama) Alabama's Sheriff Ranch programs. These monies were used to buy building supplies for the homes at the Ranch. Home Depot was a Sponsor and donated $5,000 each year for three years.
-
Promotional and press in kind donations secured through The Stars Foundation for Children, to support an organization for abused children, reached over $200,000 through the concerted efforts of the celebrities Vince Gill, Cincinnati Bengals Carl Zander, Coach Sam Wyche, and Pat Ryan, and many country music and NFL celebrities that generously donated their time, talent and resources. Vince Gill performed free concerts two years for the gala events.
-
Vince Gill contributed his time to The Stars Foundation to serve as a National Ambassador in 1991 by airing a national radio PSA for missing and exploited children in partnership with The Stars Foundation and a Florida based missing and abused children hotline.
-
While Stella Parton, Dolly Parton's sister, donated her time to attend events and speak on behalf of the "Celebrate the Child" campaign for The Stars Foundation for Children, she was also representing products on Home Shopping Network. As a spokesperson for the campaign, she generously donated 20% of her profits to Habitat for Humanity, impacting children and their families with housing assistance.
-
During this time, The Stars Foundation for Children was headquartered in Nashville, and benefited organizations including United Way of Middle Tennessee, and United Way of America (National). By strategically aligning a sponsorship with Bill Cosby and Willie T Ribbs with Service Merchandise for the Indy 500, Cheryl and the former Executive Director of United Way of Middle Tennessee, Dorothea Heiden, sought a generous $600,000 donation for the national United Way organization from the sponsorship.
-
In addition, from this relationship with the former Chairman of Service Merchandise, Ray Zimmerman, a generous $1,000,000 donation was given to United Way of Middle Tennessee by an anonymous star donor from the music industry through introduction by The Stars Foundation for Children. These two donations supported and impacted the quality of life for thousands of children in Middle Tennessee.
-
The Stars Foundation for Children has in past years served as a co-sponsor of the United Nations International Day of Peace, and helped coordinate promotional efforts across the country for peace through media outlets.
-
The Stars Foundation for Children was a co-sponsor of International Day of Prayer, with its Congressional support, at the Capitol Hill event coordinated by Dr. Corinthia Boone.
- Ms. Colleen Brooks, Garth Brook's mother, serving as Honorary Chairwoman of a radio simulcast, envisioned with Cheryl and their board a project called the City of Angels Headquarters, USA and a global peace tour benefiting children's charities throughout the world.
